Blending
Images
With
these images I try to evoke a dream-like state and achieve what
seems like apparent randomness. I aim to create work that is not
bound by a predetermined layout. The photographs are meant to reflect
images in my subconscious. |

Microscopic
Images
I have
been fascinated by the popular idea that there is a cosmic geometry
to all things, down to the microscopic. Pursuing this idea in my
work, I set up several microscopes and began photographing a variety
of objects. I continued to refine my photographic approach to bring
out the maximum detail in this light. These images suggest the monumental
dimension of the universe. |

Myself
In Other Times
I took
the following photographs over a 23-year period. The images of myself
were taken in a single day after this span and digitally integrated
into the photos. The series represents an exploration of memory. |

Photographic
Images In Solution
Photographs
from the past taken by family members and myself preserved in solution.
As light shines through the solution, the images appear three dimensional,
enhancing the humanity of the work. The images chosen reflect sombre
contemplation, moments temporarily captured but quickly lost. |

Video
Sculptures
These
sculptures integrate light, movement and video clips to display
memories via an unorthodox viewing mechanism. The video clips used
were created to match the specific sculptures in which they are
housed. The sculptures themselves often are intended for display
within unique installations. |

Wax
Photographs
Photographs
adhered to wood blocks using beeswax. A unique visual outcome is
achieved with each photo by scraping the encasing wax to varying
degrees. The scraped wax creates a veiled effect, causing the photographs
- many of lost family or collected during my lifetime - to appear
as distant memories almost beyond reach. |
|
Ink
Drawings
Intricately
penned lines interweaving. The images come from a time in my childhood
when no pictures were taken to photographically capture events.
I have tapped into my memory to recreate images from that time,
working to explore and better understand what the period meant to
me. |

Landscape
Oil Paintings
Oil
on veneer. While strongly suggesting landscapes, there is an intentional
abstraction to the work. This abstraction is meant to allow the
viewer's mind to wonder, contemplating what exactly the image represents.
The brushwork is spontaneous; each painting is started and completed
in a single sitting. |
|
Multi-Panel
Work
Composed
of 28 wooden panels in pairs, each panel a snapshot of a dreamscape
where human figures interact in a forest of surreal forms. The panels
were executed over the course of a year by simply moving the brush
around until images emerged from my subconscious. |

From
The Sketchbook
These
pen and ink drawings are compilations of images taken from sketchbooks
I have filled over many years. I unite various images into an overall
design to connect the dots that represent my various works. |

Photographs

Family
portraits printed on aluminum then covered with textured glass and
plastic to mute the photographs. These images memorialize family
members lost along with the 30,000 killed in a massive earthquake
in Chillan, Chile in 1939. This series also speaks to how their
passing affected my life as a Chilean artist living in New York
City. |
