Chestnut Street Bus Shelters
Permanent, Installed 1999
On
one of downtown Philadelphia's main thoroughfares, Pablo Tauler's
11 bus stops on Chestnut Street utilize one-inch colored glass and
stainless steel ground to produce a dancing-light reflection. The
shelter stainless-steel crowns feature colored glass and black overlays
in organic shapes, as well as sculpted-steel friezes painted black
with textured powder coat. “We call them transit temples,”
said Carol Lawrence, acting first deputy city representative for
arts and culture. “It just says something incredibly positive
about the city. It transforms Chestnut Street.”

Woodhaven Boulevard Subway Station
Permanent, Installed 1996
"On
the mezzanine of the busy Woodhaven Station, nine “wrapped”
station support beams – encased in sheaths of iron, stainless
steel, and 1” thick architectural glass – figuratively
stand watch over passing travelers. The sculpture...simultaneously
respects the physical characteristics of the station and reshapes
it, using light, reflection, and materials to construct a powerful
memorial to the Lost Battalion – a group of World War I soldiers
killed in battle."
